Back to the Bank (Monday)
Tortola
Running out of cash means hearing to the bank on another island. Over the weekend I had to float the company some money to cover payroll so a trip to the bank is necessary. Recently, the weather has been a bit chaotic, with lots of wind. This means the ferries can’t dock at the normal place, so instead we have to board in the yacht harbor, which is even worse for parking than the usual place.
Once I made it to the bank at around 10.15a I started my wait. The first line outside was about ten people deep. Probably the longest I’ve dealt with since the new normal. I guess that’s what I get for going on a Monday. Luckily, it only took fifteen minutes to get inside so I could continue to wait in line. In all, I was done at the bank by 11a, so I took a strolled down to Pier Park. I hit up a tobacconist, but ended up with nothing more than a few bottles of rum. Didn’t have time or the inclination to continue my search for a pipe, so I headed to the dock for the ferry home.
Work
Once I was back, the intern met me at the dock. Had to write a check for her and pick up some receipts. Once that was all done I headed home for a quick stop. Just picked up two sets of keys and headed right back out! Stopped by the house on the hill to drop off some groceries, the owner is coming soon. Then it was on to another house to put something inside, the handyman didn’t have keys.
Tuesday
Work
Started out a few minutes early at the house on the hill. Opened the place up, all the windows and doors. Ran around checking electronics and batteries. Got the handyman going and ordered a couple trucks of water. So much to do to prepare for the owner’s arrival on Friday. Only problem is, he’s not coming. Turns out his lady-friend has COVID and can’t come. Luckily, most of the work can still proceed, if anything this means even more for the handyman to do since he already got the furniture out.
Accounting
Then it was time to finish the accounting for January. After all was said and done I was happy to find that we made enough profit for me to pay myself again! Course, I went most of 2020 unpaid, maybe eventually I’ll pay myself back for it, we’ll see. It really only took me an hour or two to finish everything up. Main reason I hadn’t done it yet was because I didn’t have the receipts from the intern for her spending until yesterday afternoon.
Wednesday
Work
Started the day with the usual running around. Stopped by SSB/NHI and was able to pick up one of the five forms I’m waiting on. There was a couple other stops by freight companies to deal with a bunch of chairs being shipped in. I hit up a grocery store, twice. Forgot something the first time. I also worked on my nemesis, which I think it starting to get better. I really hope so since we’ve got guests coming soon!
Thursday
Work
A bit of the usual running around this morning. First I dropped off a check, then I dealt with customs, picked up some non-existent trash, and finally I checked on my nemesis. Once that was done I made a stop by home to wire some fund and switch vehicles. Gotta go by the old place and check on a few things there.
Pool Day (Friday)
Pools
I started with the easy pool, guests arriving today at an unknown time. It was, as expected, fairly easy. Next up was my nemesis, which was looking surprisingly good. I gave it a really good vacuum and a thorough scrubbing. Didn’t take nearly as long as it usually does. I think it’s finally getting back in order. After that was the old place. That one took a while because it was time to clean the filter. I didn’t do a whole lot to the pool itself though.
Once I was done there I took a lunch break then headed to the new pool. I gave this pool a serious cleaning because the owner is coming on Sunday. It took longer than I expected and I didn’t bring a hat, so I got a bit too much sun. Finally, I ended pool day at the leaky pool. Didn’t really do a whole lot there besides add some water. Both pools were in pretty decent shape.
Saturday
Work
Just another day on the island. First I headed to meet up with the housekeeper. Made sure she was set and we went over next week’s schedule. After that was the house on the hill to do the same with the handyman. I did another vacuum and scrub on the pool there too. Then I made my way home to catch up on this week’s accounting.
Sunday
Relaxing
Had a mostly relaxing day. A small bit of work, but mostly the day was full of video games and a little housework.
Monday
Work
Spent all morning running around. Picked up supplies for the housekeepers and some other stuff needed at that place. Called the pool guys again about the new pool. Still no one coming out. There was more I did, but I don’t remember exactly what.
Tuesday
Work
A bit of a light work day today. I checked on my nemesis, still not doing great. I’ve got a full clean to do tomorrow so today I just looked at it. I also had to expose myself to potential carriers due to technical issues. Old folks and electronics don’t mix. I’m sure I’ll be fine and I took every precaution.
Wednesday
Work
Not a whole lot today, but definitely enough. I had two housekeepers cleaning my place, so I spent as much time out of the house as I could. I picked up an umbrella for one of our houses. Filled out a bunch of paperwork to turn in to the government but didn’t drop them off. And I checked up on my nemesis. Gave it a full scrub and vacuum.
Thursday
Work
Things I did. . . I actually felt accomplished today! I don’t remember specifically what I did in what order but I did things. Things like dropping off taxes and bring water to old people (our guests). Like, going to a store and cleaning a pool. Always more things to do tomorrow though.
Pool Day (Friday)
Pools
I’m writing this many days later, so I don’t remember exactly how things went. The easy pool was easy. I didn’t touch the new pool because it’s still being repaired. The old place needed a bit of work, but I didn’t go all out. My nemesis was just a complete bitch. And I didn’t do a whole lot at the leaky pool.
My Birthday (Saturday)
Happy Fucking Birthday
Ugh, I really was hoping to take the day off. I was hoping to actually get a weekend off. But instead I got a bunch of last minute work on top of the other crap I had to do. I did a full service on my nemesis again. Had to meet a plumber at the house on the hill due to pressure issues. I had to run supplies for the housekeeper. It really left me in a foul mood.
Valentine’s Day (Sunday)
Happy Fucking Valentine’s Day
Not much to report. I even had to do a little work. Not much work, but a phone call or two. Shit that could have waiting until the next day.
