Dragoncon 2022 Write-Up

Figure i have this site so I shouldn’t neglect the blog. Well, I’m going to neglect it, but I don’t want to. There just isn’t enough time to do everything I want. Anyway, time for the inspiration for this post: DragonCon! Yep, it just happened again and I went this year, so why not an after-con report? Let’s get started!

Dragoncon 2022

I’d first like to just say I had a blast. Best (only) con in a long time! But no, really, it was great. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a convention as much as Dragoncon 2022 since long before COVID. The convention didn’t feel overly crowded, it actually felt a little more empty than expected at times.

I arrived Thursday evening after work. It took a while to get there because of traffic, my Uber driver was so impatient. We actually had a panel start right around when I got there. My director was off trying to find a key to open the track room so I broke in and opened it up while I waited for her to return.

Thursday was a lot busier than in the past. I was surprised by the amount of people out and about. There were some great costumes, even that early in the con. Once I got everything dropped in the room and settled we wandered around the con.

Daily Routine

Most days were the same for me; I woke up around 8, headed to the track room and hung out while I “worked” until evening. The food trucks were great, at least all the ones I tried. Never did a proper sit-down meal though. I was sad that the chicken and waffles truck wasn’t there.

In the evenings we would wander around, look at costumes, and take pictures. We made our way into many dances, even got to see MC Chris’s final show.

The lines for some of the events were insane, but I mostly stayed out of them. I did have to wait for the dealer’s hall. Unlike most people, I felt the line wasn’t too bad. It was long but moved swiftly. I thought it was amazing that they had the line snake through and underground parking area.

Dragoncon Dealer’s Hall

I made it all through the dealer’s hall twice, first time was window shopping in preparation to buy during my second trip. There was a lot of stuff I wanted but I just could justify the expenses. I did end up with a shirt for my lady.

Dragoncon Shenanigans

At some point during the convention a friend picked up what’s known as a Pixel Pal. It’s a small painted block of wood with googly eyes. They were dropped around the con to entice people to take pictures of them in interesting ways. I ended up with a bunch of fun pictures that I posted to my Twitter.

There were a ton of great costumes I posted there too. I was having a blast with my Twitter during the convention. There were other costumes I never got to see, but I got to experience them secondhand at least.

How was your convention? What did you do, what did you like the most/least? Any special happenings you want to share?

Overall, I had a great time and I look forward to doing it again. I walked away from the convention inspired and full of ideas for the future. Luckily, I’ve got a whole year to get ready for the next con!

Interested in my ideas? Hit me up, maybe we can work together on a project or costume for next year. . .
