A Crossroads
I am at a crossroads. My island adventure is over, for now at least. I’m back in the States and have been for just over a month. I know I’ve been silent for way too long, but I’m back and better than ever! Island life was a challenge, I was way outside my comfort zone, but I learned a lot. I met new people, learned new skills, and found new appreciation for the world and my place in it. During my time there, I found new ways to do things by thinking outside the box. Every problem was up to me to solve and I used every resource at my disposal to find creative solutions. I helped others, a mentor of sorts.
So, back to the crossroads. I need income, I have to eat. I have bills to pay. For now, I can’t go back the way I came, but there are other paths. There’s the traditional employment path. I’ve been job hunting, and it’s no fun. Everyday I send out my resume in the hopes of finding a job. I scour the job boards in the hopes of finding a unicorn. . .
I have explored other paths. I’ve tried to grow an audience on Twitch and YouTube. There’s also my Itch.io page, where I’ve been building Unity assets for others to use. I’ve spent time tutoring people and helping them with programming challenges.
The Problem
None of my alternative paths have worked. Interest is there it seems, but it’s slow growth. And the ability to make money from any one path seems limited. What I need is a path that takes all my skills, experience, wisdom, and knowledge together. Like going back to working in Information Technology.
The whole idea of “working” kills me though. Having someone else set my schedule and watch my time depresses me. I need money to live but how do I earn money without “working”? How do I make a living with my time without selling my soul?
The Solution
I sell my time in a different way. Why shouldn’t I offer my time to anyone who wants it? I’ve got a lot of skills, and a lot of experience. I would love to be able to use my time to enrich the lives of others by sharing my experience with them.
Over the past few month I’ve been helping people with Unity and game development. These are just people trying to learn. I had a few one-on-one sessions, chatted back and forth through reddit, discord, etc. I’ve come to realize I have a lot more to offer. I have a huge set of skills I can tap into. I love solving problems.
My Path
Who says I need to follow someone else’s path? I think I need to forge my own. . . And that’s just what I’m going to do. I’m already working on putting everything together for this, but it will take some time and effort to do. To begin, I’m offering my time, by the hour, to anyone who wants it. Whatever you need, I’ll put forth my best effort to help. I want to mentor you!
What does a mentor do?
This is more than just tutoring, or teaching, this is mentoring. What does that mean? It means what you need it to mean. My time is yours, so what you use it for is up to you (within reason). The possibilities are endless, but check out my skills page to see what I can offer you.

To do this, I’ll be using Patreon. I haven’t finished setting it up yet, but it shouldn’t be too long before it’s ready to go. I’m sure it will be a work in progress for a while. I’m going to transition my entire web presence towards this goal and use all possible avenues to help my patron’s accomplish their goals.
