Monday
Work
This morning was all about paying bills. I started out prepping all the paperwork to run over to the appropriate government agencies. Then I had to psych myself up to actually go and do it. It wasn’t all that bad, just running around to a couple different places. None of my work permit stuff is ready yet.
Game Development
So, I’m diving back in. I kinda stopped because I hit a wall in my space game. And things were weird last week. But now I’m diving back in with the humble beginnings of another game. This one will be so much different than anything I’ve tried before. Yet, something you might already have heard of. Meh, once I’m actually deeper into development I’ll throw together an actual post about it.
Tuesday
Work
So the housekeepers showed up at the wrong house. Had to pick two of them up in my truck to drive to the right place. Once I got them settled I ran out to get the supplies they needed. Then it was on to dealing with other crap. I was able to get what I needed for the letters. Now I still wait on those to be able to progress with my work permit renewal.
It wasn’t until my dinner was nearly finished in the oven when the housekeepers called for a ride home. Not only that, but they weren’t even ready when I arrived to pick them up. Luckily, they weren’t going too far, so my dinner was still warm when I got home to eat it.
Game Development
I did get a bit of time today to continue working on my newest game idea. Most of the time was spent messing with a single issue that turned out to be a non-issue. That’s okay though, I can now progress on to the next thing. That next thing is filling out a map. Yep, a simple map design based on nothing at all for the game I’m working on.
Wednesday
Work
Got the housekeeper and handyman going at a house in preparation for an arrival this afternoon. While they were working I was cleaning the pool. Figure it’s best to get it done early and make it look good for the guests. As is my luck, while I was cleaning the pool it started raining. Not a light rain either, seriously heavy for a little while.
Game Development
I continued work again today. Spent a while looking for more tilesets I can use for the game. I have very specific ideas for things I want, so finding assets that fit and are free is a bit challenging. After a lot of looking, and a lot of downloads, I’ve come to the conclusion that I may have to create some of my own tilesets.
Pools (Thursday)
Work
Started out this morning by meeting someone at the ferry dock. Traded a check for a flash drive. I feel like a spy (not)! I can’t wait for things to slow down again. With September coming up it’ll likely happen. As it is we’re not getting much for bookings, and next month is prime hurricane month.
Pools
I started over at the leaky pool. Yep, back to servicing that one. Leak still isn’t fixed, but it’s better. And both pools there have been completely repainted and look a lot better. They just needed a little bit of vacuuming. After stopping by home to deal with the contents of the flash drive I was on my way to the amazing house. I only stopped by long enough to look around and start running water into the pool.
Next up was my nemesis. That thing is in rough shape, which sucks because we have guests next week. It’s built up too much cyanuric acid so the chlorine isn’t properly effective. I took breaks from cleaning that pool a few times. I had to run out and get supplies for the housekeepers. Went next door to our old house, and got interrupted. Had to go home and sign for a package.
By the time I was done with pools I was completely exhausted. I hadn’t eaten lunch and it was well into the afternoon by the time I did. I still have a pool to do tomorrow, but it’s the new pool and so easy. There will be more work involved up there though. A few different tasks I’ll be required to do.
Game Development
I did take some time to think about the game while I was busy with pools. I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t make the perfect game that I want. I have to compromise on some things. Maybe later I’ll be able to do it, but for now I just want to make something I enjoy.
Friday
Work
Early arrival today. Met the guests at the dock at 9am. Got them over to the villa in short order and was on my way to doing more work. Had to go cut a solar blanket to size at the new pool. At least that takes care of that. Should hopefully prevent the pool from losing so much water in the heat. Then I went home and got payroll done.
Saturday
Work
Started work a little early again. Ran over to get payment from guests. They decided to stay a couple extra days. After that I went and locked up our old house since it’s empty. Then stopped off to swap internet boxes at another house. Playing musical chairs with boxes is a thing of the past, so it’s time they were all where they belong.
Game Development
Slow and steady wins the race, right? Still working on the new game. I’ve implemented some of the stuff I had put together for the space game. Things like loading, saving, scene changes, etc. Took a little bit to get that last one working the way I wanted but now I can easily switch between scenes in the game. I’m tempted to change it a little bit though. As it stands you enter and exit when you reach a certain place. I’m tempted to make it require a button press.
Sunday
Game Development
I continued working on the game. Just a few little things though. I began putting together a blog post about what I’ve been doing too. Eventually I’ll publish it.
Work
I did have to run out a couple times. Power outage at our one occupied villa. Turned the generator on for the guests, but later it overheated and turned off. I think I got everything square though, eventually.
Featured Image
This week’s featured image is one of the earliest photos from the site. A close-up of some coral. This was taken back when my camera was new and I was still learning how to use it and how it worked.
