So one thing that concerns me with the way I’m posting blogs is how they appear in time. Like, take the last post for example. That post covered November 1st and 2nd, labeled as yesterday and today. But I published it today, November 3rd.
Does it matter if my posts are a day later? Should I change the publish time to reflect the day it was written? Or should I try to just note in each post the actual day (or days) that it references? In the grand scheme of things I guess it doesn’t really matter, but it concerns me a little. I think I’ll try to remember to just backdate (or correct) the publish time to reflect more accurately going forward.
Reading
I’ve finished the first “book” of Small Worlds and have now begin book two, Strange Cosmology. I’m really enjoying this series. Technically it’s like part 50 of nearly 200, so I’ll be reading this for a while.
Writing
So I’ve decided that a good way to stretch my creative legs is to take something I’ve already written and examine it. I’m going to start with the untitled short that I wrote in another blog post. I really like the idea I had begun. The whole thing was enough for a good scene, but it just didn’t have enough content to fill a chapter. It needs more words, but good words.
So I’m going to go through it and break it down. Systematically analyze it and make notes. Not necessarily do anything to it yet, but just decide what more it needs. Maybe expand a bit in the analysis with certain ideas I might have. Hell, I might actually write some more prose for it, I don’t know.
It probably won’t be something I do quickly, all in one day or one sitting (hell, I’ve already done some work on it and stopped). But hopefully this will help me capture some of my missing creativity while allowing me to grow as a writer. I always loved the idea of writing, but I was never much good at it. Well, that might be a bit harsh.
Okay, so I changed my mind and just went with the flow and completed my initial analysis of the untitled short. Didn’t take as long as I expected and actually had a few good ideas. Lots more work to do to improve that. Maybe I will do that soon, maybe that won’t be next . . . Who knows what will happen.
Workspace
After going through all that writing I realized that I kinda need a second monitor. The easy way to do what I want would be to have both the original (or really a copy of the original) open, and a copy of my analysis open at the same time, viewable on different screens.
I need a desk, somewhere to work other than this damned kitchen table. I need a better chair, this hard molded plastic just isn’t cutting it. There was talk of possibly getting a free desk from one of the houses we’ve managed, but I don’t know if that will happen. I would really like a bit more space to myself.
Two screens, two laptops, one work area. As it stands just trying to use the two laptops on this table is a pain. To really work with the accounting laptop I need a keyboard too, and there’s no way I can get that setup well here at this kitchen table.
