Handmade Pizza Dough

CategoryDifficultyBeginner

My favorite pizza dough recipe. It is very simple and requires only a few ingredients that are easy to find.

Pizza Dough
Prep Time30 minsTotal Time30 mins
 2.25 tsp yeast (1 package)
 1 cup warm water
23 cups flour (plus more, if necessary)
 1.50 tsp salt
 1.50 tbsp olive oil
1

In a large bowl combine yeast, water, olive oil, and salt. Stir well to proof. Let sit for 5 minutes.

2

Add 1 cup flour and mix well to thoroughly incorporate.

3

Add an additional cup of flour and mix well with hands.

4

Transfer dough to a lightly floured work surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, adding additional flour as necessary to maintain smooth, elastic dough. Dough should not be sticky.

5

Transfer dough to another large, lightly oiled bowl and turn to coat completely. Cover with damp towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Usually takes at least an hour.

6

Divide the dough into two even portions and form into balls. Place on a lightly oiled baking sheet and cover with a damp towel to rest for 15 minutes.

Dough can be stored in the refrigerator for later or used immediately.
