Sunday
10/14
It was nice to sleep in a bit and not be awoken by my alarm. The third book in the series I’ve been reading has now been released, so I’ll likely spend all day reading that.
Mid-afternoon and I’ve finished the book. I really wish there was more to read. Hopefully there will eventually be another book in the series. Thinking about it, I feel like I should continue writing too, daily exercises or something.
Well, I did it, I shared what I wrote yesterday on Reddit. I feel a bit of apprehension about doing it. Didn’t even post it under my normal handle. But who knows, maybe I’ll get positive feedback, or maybe nothing at all.

The internet situation here just seems to get worse everyday. I’ve tried so many different places with the receiver to get better service but nothing seems to work. I really wish they’d do something about the infrastructure to bring back anything better than cellular service.
I’ve spent a bit more time this morning working on the company site. Slowly this thing is coming together, but I’m having some issues too. I feel like some pages need much more content but I just can’t figure out what to add or how to add it. I also feel like I really need to work on a color scheme of some sort to tie it all together. Right now the only real color is the default green of Avada. I guess really it would make sense to use the colors in our logo, but they just don’t feel right.
So I’ve found new reading, the tales of Steelshod. It’s been quite entertaining and there’s A LOT to read. So far I’m only about 30-40 tales in, and there’s over 300 in total. It’s a lot like reading a book, so I’m good.
Tuesday
10/16
I was awoken early to a heavy downpour. The rain didn’t last long though. I’ve spent most of the rest of the morning reading more tales of Steelshod and working on the company site. Things there are really starting to come together. There’s definitely still more work to be done, but so far things look good.
I do have an idea to replace all the header images with a simple looping video of waves on the shore. I think it will take a little work (and I have to actually get the video) but it should be good.
Wednesday
10/17
Today we have a meeting with our accountant. Well, accountant advisor, maybe? I don’t know, she’s helping us get our books setup and done right. Before that we likely have to get one of our housekeepers in to do service.
Good learning session with the accountant, more homework for me. Shouldn’t be too bad though. Seems like I may even get a desk to myself soon to be able to use for work and such. Will be much better than the current situation of the kitchen table. Room for a couple laptops and a monitor, keyboard, etc.
I took a bit of time while the roommate was off doing other work to enter as much of the checks as I could into QuickBooks. Really not too hard, but there were a few I skipped to do later once she’s back. I need a bit more information, or something. The biggest issue is that we deal with a lot of shipping. There really isn’t an expense category that addresses that. Not sure if we’ll add these into some kind of generic expense category, pick a more appropriate category, or maybe just create a new category.
Thursday
10/18
Started the morning off slow, reading more tales of Steelshod while I drank my coffee. I believe I am now about halfway through what’s been written so far. The tale I’m currently on is still nearly a year old. It makes me yearn to play, or even DM. I’m really not sure how such a thing would go over here on the islands, maybe I should create a meetup for a one-off session to gauge interest.
After a while of that I had to head to a villa to unlock the many door with as many keys. The exterminator needed a look around to give an estimate. While there I took some pictures to determine angles and whatnot for what we need as well as be able to give the owners an idea of what needs to be done before we can really take good photos to display.
After that was done with, it was time for more accounting. I dove back into QuickBooks to add more expenses, entering checks and petty cash payments. There’s still so much more to do, and a few questions we need to have answered.
Friday
10/19
Another day? So far it’s just been an average day, slow start, coffee, reading more Steelshod. I do have work to do though, more stuff to add to QuickBooks. Of course, with accounting and business, there will always be more data to enter. I have a feeling I’ll end up basically being the accountant, at least for now.
Turns out there really isn’t much I can do with the accounting right now. I added a couple more transactions, but there’s still so much general setup we need to do in QuickBooks to be able to enter all the other transactions. Missing expense categories is the biggest thing right now, and I have yet to learn how to properly add those.
We’ve also got a new villa to hopefully add to our roster soon! I’ve begun work on adding it into Lodgix, our rental management system, but there are some issues. Recently, they’ve been making UI changes (probably more than that really) and some of the functionality appears to be broken, and others not well thought out.
The other issue is with the rates. That’s my biggest concern really, because the current rate for the villa is not static. The way our system works can’t have variable increase based on occupants; it requires a linear progression, a set number of dollars per guest above the base number. But the rates as they stand change slightly between guest count. I’m not sure how to address this issue quite yet.
Saturday
10/20
Another morning starts as usual, coffee and Steelshod. I fear I am reaching the end, only a hair over 50 tales left currently until I’ve reached the newest. Hopefully by the time I get there at least one new one will have been written. Reading this still gets me wanting to DM or at least play.
I heard back from the people at our rental management system. They’ve addressed at least one of my issues, with the address problem. But there’s still an issue editing any of the details of the properties.
Oh no, I’ve done it! I’ve read every current tale of Steelshod, all 384 tales. It was a good read and I look forward to more. At the same time, I actually think I want to start a game, somehow. I’ve downloaded a few free pathfinder adventures. I doubt anything will come from it soon though.
