Family’s Arrival
It’s been a busy week so far. My brother and his family are here visiting for a few days. Their arrival on Sunday was annoying, they gt stuck having to take the late ferry due to the timing of their flight. That alone wouldn’t have been so bad if they hadn’t wanted to hang out until nearly midnight talking. Don’t get me wrong, it’ great to see him, but that’s way past my bedtime.
Working Days
Monday was just another work day, although we had a few more pairs of hands to help us. There are two arrivals on Tuesday, so we had a lot of things to do to prepare. We started the day running around taking care of small errands then set into getting one of the villas finished.
I was stuck cleaning the pool (it was in a bad way due to recent work done on the house) while they took care of the rest. Other than the heat, I really didn’t mind it. They got stuck stuffing cushions in covers, I really didn’t want to have to do that.
Leverick Bay
We went up to the Leverick Bay restaurant for dinner, the food was delicious as always. Well worth the trip. The resort is really looking so much better since the last time I was up there. There were so many boats moored in the bay too. It really does seem like things are getting back to normal on the island, at least up there.
After dinner, the family wanted to spend more time catching up. My brother and I discussed books, I stole a bit of his audiobook collection and shared links for what I’ve been reading. It was good to hang out, but I stayed up way past my bedtime again, hehehe.
Busy Work
Tuesday wasn’t much better. There was a lot of running around in preparation for the guests arriving. Two arrivals in one day is no joke. All-in-all it went well, except for the fact that the second arrival never happened. They changed their reservation but due to timing issues, we never updated our records.
In the end it turned out okay though, it gave us a bit of a reprieve. We’ve done all the grocery shopping necessary for our Thanksgiving dinner. We had a great meal at Cocomaya. My brother was also able to get a bunch of video footage that he hopes to use to for promotional purposes.
Boat Day
Wednesday was a boat day. We all piled in and embarked across the sea. Our first stop was to pick up two others from Scrub Island that were joining in. The newcomers were good people, a couple originally from Atlanta.
Once they were on board we stopped at Monkey Point for snorkeling. Unfortunately for me, my facial hair prevented my mask from getting a good seal so I couldn’t participate. Everyone else really enjoyed themselves though.
After that we made our way to Jost Van Dyke. We got drinks at Soggy Dollar and ate some lunch at Hendo’s Hideout. A lot of other people were there, the crowd watching was good. We even spent some time posing for the Soggy Dollar webcam. The ocean was wonderful too, I spent a good deal of time cooling off there.
Mid-afternoon we headed out to Foxy’s. I got to pet a friendly kitty named Captain. I also picked up a new hat and t-shirt. We weren’t there for longer than a drink and afterwards headed to Diamond Reef for another quick snorkel.
Once everyone got their fill, the couple were dropped back off at Scrub Island and we all headed home. It was nice to come home to a clean house. The housekeepers came by to get us ready for Thanksgiving. Whenever they clean it’s hard to find everything. The made my bed in a way I hate, I can’t stand the covers they put on it so I had to fix that.
Thanksgiving
Even with the holiday, work is never done. We have housekeepers cleaning a couple villas and I had to run them around a bit. We even went to deal with customs a little bit. Not a ton of work though, mostly the day was spent prepping dinner.
My brother is preparing an amazing turkey. I’ve got potatoes boiling. Soon people will be showing up with their own dishes and I’m getting hungry. . .
The Meal
Everything turned out wonderfully! My brother’s turkey was just as good as I remembered and my mashed potatoes were perfect. The company was great, ten people total sitting down to dinner and enjoying each other’s company. All the food they brought and made filled my plate and I ate until I was stuffed.
